Costa Navarino, IAGTO’s European Golf Destination 2017, organizes the 3rd edition of the international golf tournament “Messinia Pro-Am”, under the auspices of the PGAs of Europe, the PGA of Greece and the Hellenic Golf Federation. With a prize fund of €30,000, 30 top professional golfers and 90 amateurs among which celebrities from all over the word, will be playing on the destination’s two multi-awarded golf courses under the sunny Messinian sky and enjoy a rich program of experiential events.

The international golf tournament Costa Navarino Eagles Presidents Golf Cup organized by EAGLES Charity Golf Club will take place at Costa Navarino for the fourth time. Last year’s event raised the amount of 700,000EUR for charitable organizations.

The award-winning Navarino Challenge will enter its 6th year with a vast array of sports activities among which a half marathon at Voidokilia beach, swim in the picturesque Bay of Navarino, aqua aerobic, pilates, basketball, biking, climbing, taekwondo, tennis, baby swimming and many more. Led by the Greek-American ultra-marathon runner Dean Karnazes and joined by Olympic medalists and prominent athletes, the non-competitive event aims to raise awareness about the benefits of healthy living, exercise and the Mediterranean diet as well as the issue of childhood obesity.

The New York Times will return to Costa Navarino for their 4th discussion forum on Democracy, in the framework of the Athens Democracy Forum. This year the topic will revolve around books, in connection to Athens being named UNESCO World Book Capital 2018. Internationally acclaimed speakers, authors, key opinion leaders and influencers will gather to discuss the relationship of democracy and books in the idyllic setting of Costa Navarino. In addition to the discussion, attendees will have the chance to participate in authentic cultural experiences.

Costa Navarino will be host to “Noos” on 22 July 2018 – a performance by Justine Berthillot and Frédéri Vernier. The two acrobats share a strong educational background in gymnastics, acrobatics and circus performance. Their performance Noos (2011) with which they tour the world, reflects their study on the relation with the Other.

The Aegean Airlines Pro-Am will return for its 13th edition at Costa Navarino with 60 PGA Professionals competing for a prize fund of €70,000. The hugely popular event is known around the world for its quality both on and off the golf course, with participants enjoying entertainment at the various après-golf events throughout the tournament week, along with unforgettable golfing moments at the destination’s signature golf courses, The Dunes Course and The Bay Course.

For the third consecutive year, the Benaki Museum, Costa Navarino and Athens International Airport, join forces in a unique cultural project. They present an innovative exhibition of book illustrations by Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghika, one of the greatest Greek artists of the 20th century. Though best known as a painter, Hadjikyriakos-Ghika began to work regularly as a text illustrator in the 1930s. Some of his best-known illustrations appeared in the works of Cavafy, Elytis and Kazantzakis, among others. The exhibition takes place in two parallel venues, Costa Navarino and Athens International Airport, from end May till November.

The Messinia Pro-Am marked its first year of full success and was completed with unique performances on 21-24 February! The golf tournament attracted 27 teams consisting of 27 top professionals and 81 amateur golfers from 14 countries, who experienced the signature golf courses under the sunny sky, the Messinian hospitality, as well as many surprises! Federico Elli (PGA Italy) was the 1st Messinia Pro-Am professional champion while the 1st place team was the professional Stuart Boyle and amateurs Haris Papadopoulos, Georgios Kyvernitis and Daniele Bovio. The Captain Vassilis Foundation successfully completed the 4th series of Gastronomy seminars, aimed at familiarizing culinary professionals with Messinia’s authentic cuisine and local products. Acclaimed chefs shared their expertise and passion for the region’s rich gastronomic heritage from 10 to 12 May 2016.
